Suggested Outline for Your Group:

  • Share “God Stories”

    • Share testimonies of where you have seen God working in your life lately.

  • Read 1 Samuel 26 out loud together

    • Invite a few people to read the verses for the week

  • Go through the Discussion Questions:

    • Don’t feel like you need to get through them all

    • Use the ones that are the most helpful in stirring up meaningful conversation

  • Make sure you save enough time to pray together

    • Share prayer requests

    • Pray for one another

    • Thank God for the ways He’s answered the prayers of the group lately

    • Invite the Holy Spirit to speak through you as you wait on Him

Discussion Questions:

  • What do you reach for when life feels out of control?

  • Where in your life do you need to confess, God I trust your promise but I don't trust your process?

  • Where in your life do you need to confess, God I am trying to do your job for you?

  • Respond to God's process in your life in 4 ways

    • Ask, "What is my spear"? What do you reach for when you fear God might not come through?

    • Obey what God has made clear. 1 John 5:2 says love of God is proved through obeying His commandments

    • Don't Force His Promise. Ask for faith to stop yourself from taking control and look to Him.

    • Release control in faith. Where do you need to follow David's example of releasing the spear in your own life?

Application

Confess: You are God in heaven and we are here on earth. Your ways are above our way, your thoughts are above our thoughts, you are able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or imagine.

Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,

Isaiah 55:8–9 (ESV)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.
